Vol. 517 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Liam Aylward

Question:

302 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will approve an application by the board of management of a school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny for the provision of an extension to include a sports hall, computer room and art room in view of the reasons outlined in its letter to his Department of 2 December 1999. [9745/00]

An application for the provision of additional accommodation has been received from the managerial authorities of the school to which the Deputy refers.

To determine the amount of accommodation, if any, that the school may require, the planning unit of my Department has been requested to comment on the long-term projected enrolments for this school. As soon as the planning unit has reported on this matter, the school's application will be considered further.

Michael Ring

Question:

303 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science when the construction of a new school (details supplied) in County Mayo will commence; and the reason the design plan has been reduced by one classroom in view of the fact the educational development of the most vulnerable sector of society is involved. [9746/00]

My Department has initiated architectural planning for the construction of a new school to replace the current prefabricated accommodation for the school in question. Planning permission and fire certificates have been secured.

The accommodation brief was reviewed in the light of existing enrolment trends at the school.
