Vol. 517 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Seán Ryan

Question:

305 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will respond favourably to the application from Lusk national school for a resource teacher. [9748/00]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that my Department has recently approved an allocation of 12.5 hours per week resource teacher support for the school in question to cater for a number of special needs children attending the school. A full-time special needs assistant post has also been recently allocated to the school to cater for children with special needs.

I understand that an up to date assessment report is currently awaited in relation to a further child with special needs attending the school. Once this report is received, my Department will consider whether the school requires an increased level of resource teacher support.
