Question:

65 Mr. Durkan asked the Taoiseach the total number of animals in the beef and dairy herds; the degree, if any, to which this reflects an increase or decrease over the past three years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9963/00]

The latest figures available for the number of breeding animals in the dairy and beef herd are from the December 1999 agricultural postal survey conducted by the Central Statistics Office.
