Vol. 517 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

184 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if a person (details supplied) in County Galway will be scheduled for surgery at an early date; and if he will confirm that the equipment installed in both Beaumont and Tallaght hospitals is in full use. [10147/00]

The provision of medical treatment to eligible persons in this instance is the statutory responsibility of the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the authority to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

185 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the lengthy waiting times for persons requiring hip replacements in Tallaght Hospital; if he has satisfied himself that the hospital, in view of the level of demand, (i) is able to cope, (ii) has adequate funding and (iii) has adequate staff levels; if he will investigate the reason a person (details supplied) in Dublin 14 has to wait over 12 months for a hip replacement operation; and if he will address these factors in order that her operation can be carried out as soon as possible. [10148/00]

The provision of orthopaedic treatment in this case, is a matter in the first instance, for the Eastern Regional Health Authority, ERHA.

The other issues raised by the Deputy are also a matter for the ERHA and I have, therefore, asked the regional chief executive of the authority to investigate all of these issues and to respond directly to the Deputy.
