Vol. 517 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Ulick Burke

Question:

258 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Education and Science when the expert group on staffing will report; if his intention is to reduce maximum class size and the class contact time of deputy principals; the plans he has to appoint a learning support teacher to schools at a rate of one teacher per 200 pupils; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10080/00]

It is hoped that the report of the expert group will be available within a number of months.

The Deputy will be aware that a number of the additional posts being created at second level this year will be utilised to improve the retention of pupils in our second level schools. Final decisions have not been taken in relation to the allocation of the remainder of the posts.
