Vol. 517 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Inquiries.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

81 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will hold an inquiry into the death of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare who spent more than six hours on 16 or 17 Janu ary in Naas General Hospital waiting for a free cubicle and was returned home the same night before being taken back to the hospital by ambulance the following evening and transferred to Beaumont hospital a day later; the reason his condition was not diagnosed on 17 January when he first attended the hospital and he was allowed home; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9919/00]

The provision of treatment in the case referred to by the Deputy is a matter, in the first instance, for the Eastern Regional Health Authority (ERHA) since 1 March 2000.

I have asked the regional chief executive officer of the ERHA to investigate this matter and reply directly to the Deputy.
