Vol. 517 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

95 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Health and Children the investigation, if any, held into the case highlighted in an inquest at Swinford, County Mayo, on 28 March 2000 into the death of a baby just one day after the mother being discharged from the maternity wing of Mayo General Hospital, having been told that she was not in labour; the steps being taken to ensure that such an incident does not happen again; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9924/00]

The provision of services at Mayo General Hospital is the responsibility of the Western Health Board in the first instance. I understand from the board that an investigation is being held into the facts of the case raised by the Deputy. My Department has asked the chief executive officer to provide details to the Deputy directly.
