Vol. 517 No. 4

Written Answers. - Community Pharmacies.

Liz McManus

Question:

117 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will inquire into the refusal by the Eastern Health Board to grant a licence to open a chemist shop in Roundwood, County Wicklow where a real need exists; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9913/00]

The Health (Community Pharmacy Contractor Agreement) Regulations, 1996, specify the criteria to be used by a chief executive officer of a health board when determining applications for community pharmacy contractor agreements. The decision of the chief executive officer of the former Eastern Health Board to refuse an application for a community pharmacy contractor agreement in Roundwood, County Wicklow is the subject of an appeal to me under Article 10 of the regulations. This appeal is under consideration and the Deputy will appreciate that it would not be appropriate for me to comment further on the matter at this stage.
