Vol. 517 No. 5

Written Answers. - Nursing Homes.

Noel Ahern

Question:

106 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Health and Children the position regarding a proposal to build a new Eastern Health Board nursing home at St. Clare's unit, Glasnevin, Dublin 9; if approval has been given to the board for planning and design; if provision has been made in the Estimates for 2000 for construction costs; when construction will commence; the estimated cost and number of patients to be cared for; if it will be an additional or a replacement facility; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10367/00]

The development of services for older people at St. Clare's Unit, Glasnevin is a matter for the Eastern Regional Health Authority. The question of proceeding with the further development of St. Clare's, Glasnevin will depend on the priority attached to the proposal by the authority vis-à-vis its other capital proposals for the improvement of services for older people as part of the national development plan. Details regarding the national development plan are being finalised and I have asked the chief executive of the authority to examine this issue as a matter of urgency and respond directly to the Deputy.
