Vol. 517 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Michael Ring

Question:

133 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the number of appeals received by the appeals officer in the Western Health Board in the past 12 months, on a monthly basis; the number of appeals dealt with; and the number of appeals allowed and disallowed, including details of the category under appeal, for example, supplementary welfare allowances. [10271/00]

The supplementary welfare allowance scheme is administered on my behalf by the health boards. Appeals in supplementary welfare allowance cases are dealt with in the first instance by the health board appeals officers. I understand from the Western Health Board that it received 424 appeals in relation to supplementary welfare allowance in 1999. Details are set out in the following tabular statement. Information for January to March 2000 is not yet available.
