Vol. 517 No. 5

Written Answers. - Teacher Training.

Question:

167 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 411 on 28 March 2000, he will address the specific concerns outlined in correspondence (details supplied) regarding the cancellation of computer training for teachers. [10302/00]

As I stated in my reply to Question No. 411 of 28 March the teacher training component of the Schools IT 2000 programme continues to invest heavily in the development of teacher skills in information and communication technology. Under Schools IT 2000 plans are currently being developed for the next stage of the ICT in education programme for primary and second-level schools. This includes a review of the teaching skills initiative with particular reference to the range of course provision and the level of teacher and school participation in training programmes. The particular needs of the school in Dublin 12 mentioned by the Deputy will be considered in the context of this planning and review.
