Orders for approximately 190 mobile homes and associated warranty, installation and maintenance services have been negotiated with a number of Irish firms to help meet the requirements for mobile homes announced in the recent Government decision relating to asylum seekers. The overall requirement is of the order of 250 homes. Discussions are also proceeding with a number of other Irish firms who manufacture homes here with a view to determining whether they can meet the criteria for early installation, warranty and maintenance which are required.
It is not clear that the full requirement for mobile dwellings under this programme can be sourced from Irish manufacturers within the desired timeframe and to the criteria set out. In the context of providing accommodation quickly, therefore, it is likely that some at least of the homes will be of foreign manufacture.
