Vol. 517 No. 6

Written Answers. - Health Board Allowances.

Andrew Boylan

Question:

212 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will sanction further grants for boarding out facilities in the North Eastern Health Board region with particular reference to County Cavan. [10715/00]

I presume the Deputy is referring to arrangements under the Health (Nursing Homes) Act, 1990, and the Boarding Out Regulations, 1993, which enable a health board to arrange for the boarding out of adults in a private dwelling.

The provision of boarding out in the North Eastern Health Board area is a matter for the board. I am informed by the North Eastern Health Board that there are presently 18 host families who facilitate boarding out services for elderly people within the North Eastern Health Board area. In total 45 clients are currently being catered for. There are 12 host families in Cavan, two in Monaghan and four in County Meath. Discussions are currently under way with a number of potential host families in the County Louth area.
The demand for boarding out services in the Cavan area is currently being met both in terms of finance and accommodation.
