Vol. 517 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tobacco Industry.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

289 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will consider the efforts and mandatory practices of an organisation (details supplied) in the context of any proposals for the restriction or prohibition of cigarette sales in public houses, restaurants, night-clubs and other places of entertainment or leisure in view of the potentially serious loss of employment (details supplied). [10875/00]

When launching the Towards a Tobacco Free Society report on the 7 March, I stated my concerns regarding childhood addiction to tobacco and the consequent health implications. Tobacco related illnesses kill half of those who use tobacco. I have instructed my Department to prepare a comprehensive tobacco Bill which will take on board all the issues relating to tobacco.
