Vol. 517 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.

Tony Gregory

Question:

377 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his views on the issues raised in correspondence (details supplied) from two groups in Dublin 1 regarding the arrest of a member of one of the groups. [10837/00]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that on 23 March 2000 in the course of the investigation into the shooting of a man, the two people referred to by the Deputy were arrested under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939-85. They were detained and interviewed at Mountjoy Garda station.

I am assured by the Garda authorities that both were treated strictly in accordance with the Criminal Justice (treatment of persons in custody regulation 12) and on their release they both signed the custody record indicating that they had no complaints.
