Vol. 517 No. 6

Written Answers. - Angling Development.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

386 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the support, if any, available through his Department for the development of fishing in inland rivers and lakes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10845/00]

Primary responsibility for expenditure in this particular area rests with the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, to whom, I understand, an identical question has been addressed. However, I should mention that the operational programme for tourism, 1994-1999, under measure 3 of the product development sub-programme, provided for a £12.858 million angling development programme to ensure the upgrading of our coarse and sea angling to the best international standards. This measure of the programme was administered by the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources. The National Development Plan 2000-2006 includes a provision of £24 million for the development of the tourism and recreation angling product, also to be administered by the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources.
