Vol. 517 No. 6

Written Answers. - Examination Facilities.

Bernard Allen

Question:

394 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education and Science the changes made in 2000 in the rules relating to children with special needs who are sitting the junior certificate. [10452/00]

The granting of special arrangements to candidates at the certificate examinations is not a rule based system. Applications are considered individually under a set of principles.

They were developed by the expert advisory group on certificate examinations as a basis for dealing with the complex and difficult area of special arrangements for examination candidates. The principles were set out in their report which was published earlier this year. The report was circulated to all schools and other interested parties.
