Vol. 517 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Willie Penrose

Question:

423 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science if he received correspondence from Rathowen national school, County Westmeath, seeking the appointment of a resource teacher from September 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10720/00]

I am aware of the case made by the school in question for the appointment of a resource teacher to assist children with special needs attending the school.

My Department's inspectorate is currently examining the application in question with a view to determining the nature of any special supports required by the school.

As soon as the inspectorate' report has been received and considered, my Department will be in touch with the school in relation to the matter.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

424 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science further to Parliamentary Question No. 785 of 26 January 2000, the position on the provision of a resource teacher (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10721/00]

The investigation of the special educational needs of the child referred to by the Deputy has not yet been finalised. I regret the delay in finalising this matter and I have asked my Department's inspectorate to complete its investigation as a matter of urgency.

As soon as the inspectorate's report is received and considered, my Department will be in touch with the school authorities.
