Question:

127 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the role of the medical manpower forum; and if its purpose is to identify possible solutions rather than agree changes in terms and conditions of employment. [11013/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 126 and 127 together.

The Medical Manpower Forum was established to facilitate the development of a medical manpower policy relating to improved service delivery for patients in hospitals and enhanced training and career structures for doctors.

The forum is also charged with co-ordinating the work of the two working groups. In addition, the forum is to make recommendations on future policy and practice and keep under review, on an ongoing basis, the implementation of policies as determined by the Minister for Health and Children.
