Vol. 518 No. 1

Written Answers. - Irish Genealogical Project.

Enda Kenny

Question:

165 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will give a report on the Irish genealogical project; the progress made in this area with a view to achieving Government objectives; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11218/00]

My Department approved funding of £210,000 to Irish Genealogy Limited – IGL – in 1999 to enable IGL in its capacity as manager of the Irish genealogical project to begin to implement its business plan for the period 1999-2000. The business plan, which was agreed with my Department, is directed at addressing a number of critical tasks that were identified in the comprehensive review of the project which was completed by my Department in January 1999. A number of the tasks to be addressed by IGL have now been completed and others are ongoing. I have approved an allocation of £210,000 for the current year to enable IGL complete the implementation of its business plan.
