Vol. 518 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

John McGuinness

Question:

146 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Finance if he will finalise details with a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny with regard to the effects of the River Nore drainage scheme on his property; and if he will give him a comprehensive reply to all of his queries in view of the fact that his business will be affected. [11642/00]

Consulting engineers are currently bringing the Nore River Kilkenny city drainage scheme to the detailed design and construction stages, which involves, inter alia, detailed investigations of site conditions, etc, throughout the scheme and firming up proposals in individual areas.

The person in County Kilkenny has been made aware through the statutory scheme exhibition process, viz. interference notice served on him, and by way of subsequent correspondence and other communications with the Commissioners of Public Works, of the extent of the works proposed to be carried out under the Nore River, Kilkenny city, drainage scheme and its likely impacts on his business premises, including the facilities for compensation available to him. Indeed, the commissioners' valuer recently met this individual with his legal representative and discussed courses of action which are open to him.

Site investigations and other surveys required to finalise the detailed design for the area in question have not yet been completed. However, contact will be made with the individual concerned in advance of any such investigative works taking place on his premises and he will be advised when the full extent of the works affecting his premises have been determined. It is customary to discuss the scheme works with property owners prior to any works taking place on their property.
