Vol. 518 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cancer Treatment Services.

Michael Ring

Question:

156 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has received a copy of the report by the National Cancer Forum; if he is accepting the report in full and the recommendations contained therein; the effect, if any, this will have on the breast care services in Mayo General Hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11361/00]

On 6 April 2000, the national cancer forum presented me with a draft copy of its report on the development of services for symptomatic breast disease. I am currently considering this report. When the finalised published report becomes available, it will be circulated to the chief executive officers of the health boards who will have responsibility for implementing it at a local level. The National Cancer Forum has indicated to me that the expert sub-group responsible for producing the report will be available to the chief executive officers of the health boards, to advise on any proposed local implementation arrangements that are aimed at flexibly applying the core recommendations of the report relating to best practice for the delivery of a quality service to women with breast cancer.
