Vol. 518 No. 3

Written Answers. - Ophthalmic Services.

Michael Ring

Question:

182 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if there is an ophthalmic clinic held in the Achill Island area of County Mayo. [11631/00]

The provision of ophthalmic services in the Achill Island area of County Mayo is, in the first instance, a matter for the Western Health Board.

I have been advised by the board that, while there is currently no ophthalmic clinic in the Achill Island area, adult medical card holders and their adult dependants, over 16 years of age, who require ophthalmic services are seen locally by opticians of their choice under the adult sight testing scheme. Should these clients require an ophthalmic physician appointment they are seen at the Westport community ophthalmic clinic.

All children requiring ophthalmic services in this area are also called to the Westport community ophthalmic clinic.
