Deirdre Clune

Question:

215 Ms Clune asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of cars which have failed the national car test to date; the way in which these cars have been disposed of; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11771/00]

Some 64,837 cars had undergone the National Car Test, NCT, by end March 2000.

A total of 36,304 failed the test. Of these 27,130 cars have undergone a first retest, and some 4,504 have again failed. Further detailed information is not yet available to my Department regarding the present status of these cars.
