Vol. 518 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Alan Shatter

Question:

253 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will allocate three additional patrol cars to Rathfarnham Garda station; and his views on whether one patrol car and one van to cover the area under the jurisdiction of this station is adequate. [11670/00]

The Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda personnel and resources to individual areas, have informed me that the current personnel strength of Rathfarnham Garda station is one inspector, eight sergeants and 51 gardaí. They have also informed me that the number of patrol vehicles, both marked and unmarked, available for the area is four. This number can, however, be augmented, if required, by cars from other districts-divisions or from specialist units.

The policing situation in Rathfarnham is also kept under constant review by the Garda authorities and alterations made, as necessary. I understand, in this regard, that there are no plans, at present, to assign additional patrol vehicles to the Rathfarnham area.
