Vol. 518 No. 3

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Michael Creed

Question:

304 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science when he will be in a position to provide a psychological assessment for a person (details supplied) in County Cork attending a special class. [11616/00]

The National Educational Psychological Service – NEPS – does not provide a service to this school at this time.

The management committee of NEPS is preparing a development plan for the phased expansion of the service. The priorities for expansion will be agreed by the management committee in consultation with local interests, including other providers of psychological services.

During the development phase of NEPS, until it can provide a service, schools have been advised to refer children in need of urgent assessment to their local health board.
