Vol. 518 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

John McGuinness

Question:

307 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the reasons for the delay in an assessment of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny to determine the school or tuition most suitable for her; and if he will insist on a full report in this regard. [11619/00]

The student to whom the Deputy refers was assessed by a psychologist from the national educational psychological service on 8 September 1999. The psychologist met with the student's mother on 30 September 1999. He furnished a full report to the school and to the parents on 14 October 1999 and met with both parents on 1 November 1999.

Between November 1999 and to-date the psychologist has been involved in both the placement of the student and in liasing with the relevant section of my Department in relation to the student's needs. I understand that the necessary resources have been made available to her present school to enable it to be in a position to cater for her particular needs.

John McGuinness

Question:

308 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress, if any, in providing home tuition for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who has been assessed by the Department and has not attended school since 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11620/00]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that my Department sanctioned five hours of home tuition per week for the child in question on the 18 January last.
