Vol. 519 No. 3

Written Answers - Community Organisation.

John McGuinness

Question:

169 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children if his Department has examined a submission made by the management group of the Fr. McGrath Centre regarding the need for funding of the homework club; and if, in view of this marginalised community's need for such a service and the fact that the project is run on a voluntary basis, his Department will expedite the application and provide financial assistance. [13873/00]

There is no record of an application for funding in the Department of Health and Children from this organisation. I understand that the South Eastern Health Board has plans to meet representatives of the Fr. McGrath Centre on 25 May 2000 to discuss the centre's plans for pre-school services and after school-adolescent support services. The centre's representatives will also be advised about the recently advertised scheme for the development of community child care facilities under the auspices of the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform.
