Written Answers - Election Literature.

Seán Haughey

Question:

189 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the distribution of an election address from candidates in a general election free of charge to their electorate; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13920/00]

Under electoral law, a candidate at a Dáil election is entitled to send, free of any charge of postage, one postal communication containing matter relating to the election to each person on the register of Dáil electors for the constituency. Two or more candidates of the same political party standing for election in the same constituency are limited to one election item, in total, under this arrangement.
