Written Answers. - School Placement.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

124 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 173 of 6 April 2000, and a recent psychological assessment and medical treatment of a person (details supplied) in County Waterford, he will provide the place sought for the person and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13952/00]

The child referred to by the Deputy is currently enrolled in St. Joseph's special school, Waterford.

The mother of the child has recently informed a member of my Department's inspectorate of her wish to have him enrolled on a full-time basis in the Star of the Sea CBS national school, Tramore. The enrolment of the child is a matter for the board of management of the school. My Department's inspectorate is currently assessing the need for additional resource support at Star of the Sea national school to cater for the special needs of the child in question and is expected to report in the near future.
