Vol. 519 No. 4

Written Answers. - Occupational Therapy Service.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

134 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 85 of 13 April 2000 to the Minister for Health and Children, he will outline the progress to date in securing the extra training places for occupational therapists in the 2000-01 academic year and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14039/00]

Following a request from my colleague the Minister for Health and Children, my Department and the Higher Education Authority have been considering the potential for increasing the number of places in occupational therapy training from October 2000. The Higher Education Authority is engaged in discussions with Trinity College Dublin in this regard and I am confident that there will be an increase in the number of places available from the next academic year.
