Vol. 519 No. 6

Written Answers. - Asylum Applications.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

127 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Finance whether his Department has entered into negotiations with a property owner in Ballybunion, County Kerry, in relation to the purchase of a premises to house asylum seekers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14605/00]

My office is engaged at present in a nationwide programme of property acquisition on behalf of the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform in connection with the provision of accommodation for asylum seekers.

To date the Office of Public Works has not pursued any proposal in the Ballybunion area to address asylum seeker accommodation requirements and has not entered into any negotiations with any property owner in the area.
