Vol. 519 No. 6

Ceisteanna–Questions. - Proposed Legislation.

John Bruton

Question:

12 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Taoiseach if he will outline the main issues to be dealt with in the Interpretation Bill which is expected to be published by him in the current Dáil session; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14046/00]

The Bill will be a consolidation and modernisation of previous Interpretation Acts, providing additional interpretation rules, principles and definitions. The Bill has been drafted by the Office of the Parliamentary Draftsman at the instance of the Attorney General. A draft memorandum for Government has been circulated to Departments for their observations. It will come before Cabinet in the near future.
