Vol. 519 No. 6

Written Answers. - Counselling Services.

Michael Bell

Question:

83 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has yet concluded consideration of the issue of whether pregnancy counselling services and other counselling services should be regulated; when he expects to bring forward proposals in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14520/00]

A conclusion has not been reached in relation to the possible regulation of pregnancy counselling or other counselling services and, therefore, the question of bringing forward proposals does not arise at present.

I am aware that prior to the establishment of the Eastern Regional Health Authority, the Eastern Health Board drew up criteria for approval of funding to voluntary counselling agencies, including pregnancy counselling agencies, and that these are the subject of discussion with the agencies concerned.
