Vol. 519 No. 7

Written Answers. - Greater Dublin Authority.

Question:

17 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if the Government is considering the establishment of a greater Dublin authority; when it is expected that its proposals in this regard will be finalised and published; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14710/00]

There are no plans to establish a greater Dublin authority as a mainline local authority. The updating of the transportation strategy for the greater Dublin area, under the auspices of the Dublin Transportation Office, is now at an advanced stage of preparation. This process involves the local authorities and the various other agencies concerned and takes account of the strategic planning guidelines for the greater Dublin area published last year. The institutional arrangements necessary to facilitate the implementation and co-ordination of the land use and transportation framework for the greater Dublin area will be considered by the Government in this context.
