Written Answers. - Public Transport.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

70 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she will give approval to the MITSUI funded unified proposal urban rail scheme from Sandyford to Dublin Airport; and the proposed start-up date for this project. [14814/00]

The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructural Development and Public Private Partnerships has been reviewing the future public transport requirements of the Dublin area. The committee received a detailed briefing from the Dublin Transportation Office on its proposed transportation strategy for the period 2000 to 2016. It also received a presentation from MITSUI unified proposal.

The Government will shortly consider the Sandyford to Dublin Airport line in the wider context of the future public transport requirements in the Dublin area. All public transport infrastructural development projects will be subject to open competitive tendering procedures.
