Vol. 520 No. 2

Written Answers. - Dental Services.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

116 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the lengthening waiting lists of school dental treatment in Donegal; the measures he proposes to implement to address this problem; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15636/00]

The provision of school dental services in the Donegal area is the statutory responsibility of the North Western Health Board.

I have had inquiries made of the North Western Health Board. I understand that the waiting lists for school dental treatment in most of Donegal are not significant and a good service is provided. However, the board is experiencing difficulties in recruiting dentists in the areas of West Donegal and Glenties and subsequently there are longer waiting lists in these areas. The board is making every effort to recruit dentists. However, I am assured that the board will meet the demand for emergency treatment of all children attending national schools in the region.
