Vol. 520 No. 2

Written Answers. - Aircraft Noise.

Seán Haughey

Question:

134 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the role, if any, he intends to give the Environmental Protection Agency and local authorities in monitoring noise pollution from aircraft in the vicinity of airports; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15578/00]

Responsibility for the regulation of aircraft noise and for related operational matters rests with the Minister for Public Enterprise and the Irish Aviation Authority, as appropriate.

While the Environmental Protection Agency and local authorities have powers to monitor any noise, I have no plans to give a specific role to either, in relation to the monitoring of noise pollution from aircraft in the vicinity of airports.
