Vol. 520 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Michael Ring

Question:

35 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the position with regard to the funding repaid to her Department from a company in north Mayo; if the funding went back to the exchequer or if it was reallocated to projects within the Department; and if she will give precise details of any reallocations. [15333/00]

I understand from Údarás na Gaeltachta that following the closure of the enterprise in question in 1999 grants of £1.8 million approximately were repaid to an tÚdarás. This repayment was used by an tÚdarás to fund grant payments to other industries. Consequently, as an tÚdarás did not require the funds, the Organisations Grant-in-Aid for 1999, grants to industry – Subhead H.2. of the Departments' Vote, was reduced by £1.4 million. This saving and other savings in the Department's Vote were used to finance expenditure of £2.2 million on the improvement of infrastructure in the Gaeltacht.
