Vol. 520 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hedge Cutting.

Enda Kenny

Question:

47 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the monitoring that has been carried out on local authorities in regard to hedge cutting during the protected season; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15345/00]

I am advised by Dúchas, the heritage sevice of my Department, that it is not considered necessary to formally monitor the activities of local authorities in relation to hedge cutting.

This year, as in previous years, Dúchas wrote to all local authorities in early March requesting their co-operation in ensuring that hedge cutting takes place, where possible, outside the period commencing 15 April and ending on 31 August.
