Vol. 520 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Development Plan.

Willie Penrose

Question:

66 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the capital programmes contained in the national development plan and funded by his Department that have commenced or will commence in the Westmeath constituency in 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15452/00]

A sum of £24 million has been allocated by the Government for tourism and recreational angling under the national development plan 2000-06. Of this amount, £17 million has been allocated for the Border, midlands and western regional operational programme. The detailed arrangement for the expenditure of this funding will be finalised following EU approval.

On the forestry side, it is estimated that £630,000 will be paid to landowners in County Westmeath in 2000 under the afforestation grants scheme, which forms part of the national development plan. It is not possible to estimate expenditure on other forestry measures as such is dependent on the level of uptake of the schemes.
