Vol. 520 No. 2

Written Answers. - Afforestation Programme.

Michael Finucane

Question:

69 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the cost involved in the payment of the forestry premiums announced in the year 2000 to those who are participating in the 1989 and 1993 schemes where the premium is considerably reduced; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15635/00]

Based on the outturn for 1999 it is estimated that the cost of extending the new premium rate to those participating in the 1989 and 1993 schemes would be £1.5 million per annum and £4.3 million per annum respectively.

I have met with Commissioner Fischler to press our case for adequate increases for those who planted between 1993 and 1999. The outcome of these discussions will determine what might be possible for those in the 1989 scheme.
