Vol. 520 No. 4

Written Answers. - Funding Allocations.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

109 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason his Department does not provide direct core funding to groups representing the elderly; if he will review this policy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15860/00]

My Department makes ongoing revenue funding available to the following organisations who represent or promote the interests of older people:

Age Action Ireland; Age and Opportunity; The Carers Association; The Alzheimer Society of Ireland; The Federation of Active Retirement Associations.

Lottery Funding support is made available to:

The Irish Senior Citizens Parliament; The Irish Association of Older People; Muintir na Tíre, for their community alert scheme.

In relation to health and social support services for older people generally, substantial additional revenue and capital resources have been allocated by this Government in recent years to the improvement of residential and community support services for older people and it is intended to further develop these services as part of the national development plan.
