Vol. 520 No. 4

Written Answers. - Medical Cards.

Noel Ahern

Question:

125 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will issue an instruction that couples whose sole income is social welfare should not have their medical cards withdrawn on renewal application as has happened with persons (details supplied) in Dublin 11 who both have their own pension books. [16021/00]

The determination of eligibility for medical cards is the responsibility of the chief executive officer of the appropriate health board. I have therefore referred the question to the regional chief executive officer of the Eastern Regional Health Authority and have asked him to reply directly to the Deputy.
