Question:

201 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has received an application for grant assistance from St. Anne's Boxing Club, Westport, County Mayo; if his attention has been drawn to the enormous contribution made by this boxing club and its officers in the promotion of discipline and sport among young people; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that the proposals which were assisted in 1999 under the lotto scheme require a future allocation in 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation (Dr. McDaid):

The sports capital programme for 2000 was widely advertised and over 1,600 applications were received by the closing date.

An application for funding under the programme has been received from the organisation in question. This application, together with all other applications, is being evaluated against the programme's assessment criteria which are outlined in the guidelines which accompanied the application form. I intend to announce the grant allocations at the earliest possible date following completion of this assessment process.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

202 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when an application by Monivea Rugby Club, County Galway, will be considered for grant aid; if his attention has been drawn to the importance of this project to many clubs outside of rugby in mid Galway; when the application will be assessed; when an announcement is likely to be made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. All applications received under the programme, including one from the organisation in question, are being evaluated against the programme's assessment criteria which are outlined in the guidelines which accompanied the application form.

I intend to announce the 2000 grant allocations at the earliest possible date following completion of this assessment.
