Vol. 520 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tourism Promotion.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

209 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has or intends to allocate any monies from his Department for the promotion of tourism through the medium of angling or seafishing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16082/00]

Under the National Development Plan 2000-2006, a sum of £24 million has been allocated, under the aegis of my colleague the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, specifically for the development of the tourism and recreational angling product. Of this amount, it is proposed to allocate £17 million to the Border, midlands and western regional operational programme and £7 million to the southern and eastern regional operational programme. I am advised by his Department that detailed arrangements for the expenditure of this funding will be finalised following EU approval.
