The most up-to-date, complete infor mation available in my Department on enrolments generally in primary schools relates to the 1998-99 school year. Details in respect of primary schools in Drogheda are contained in Appendix ‘A' as follows.
There are at present 28 primary schools in the Drogheda second level school catchment area, nine of which are in Drogheda town. The question of providing additional or replacement accommodation for a number of these schools is currently under consideration in the planning and building unit of my Department.
At second level, there are seven schools in Drogheda. A replacement building for one school is at an advanced stage of architectural planning. In the case of another school, an extension has been approved by my Department and architectural planning is expected to commence in the near future.
In accordance with normal practice for major centres of population, the situation in Drogheda will continue to be monitored in the light of all relevant factors, including housing developments and population trends. Any anticipated requirement for additional facilities at either primary or second level in Drogheda, arising from growth in these areas, will be dealt with as quickly as possible.
