Vol. 520 No. 4

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

231 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for the delay in providing a special language class for pupils in County Kildare; when the service will be in place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15885/00]

My Department's inspectorate, which has been pursuing the establishment of special language classes in the Kildare area, encountered difficulties in securing suitable accommodation in a number of schools in the area. However, I am hopeful that this matter will be resolved shortly and that the necessary provision can be put in place without further delay.

The establishment of such classes will require the availability of a speech therapy service from the South Western area Health Board.
