Vol. 520 No. 4

Written Answers. - Teachers' Pay.

Sean Fleming

Question:

236 Mr. Fleming asked the Minister for Education and Science the hourly and annual rates of pay for teachers in the primary school sector; if he will give similar information in respect of permanent, temporary, qualified and unqualified teachers; and the increments payable in all cases. [15890/00]

(Dr. Woods): Permanent and temporary teachers who are fully qualified are paid on an incremental scale. The scale which has 25 points commences at £14,957 annually and rises to £29,072. Increments are granted annually subject to service being satisfactory. Primary teachers who complete a three year recognised training course are placed on first appointment on the second point of the scale, £15,487, and those who complete a four year recognised training course are placed on the third point of the scale, £16,018.
The annual rate of salary payable to temporary unqualified persons employed in primary schools is £13,212. Increments are not awarded to persons who are deemed to be unqualified.
The details of all the scale points for qualified teachers will be forwarded directly to the Deputy.
