Vol. 520 No. 4

Written Answers. - College Accommodation.

John McGuinness

Question:

240 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the lack of proper accommodation at Ormonde College, Kilkenny, to house the current activities and the new diploma course commencing in September 2000 of Kilkenny Art and Design; if he will request a report on the space required and space available so that steps can be taken to facilitate the students and those attending the diploma course; and if he will make a statement on the provision of a separate building to accommodate the growing demand for these courses. [15958/00]

The Deputy raised the accommodation needs of Ormonde College in a parliamentary question on 30 May 2000. In reply to that question, I indicated to the Deputy that it was planned to commission a comprehensive report on the condition of the college shortly. I am pleased to inform the Deputy that the terms of reference for this study are now being finalised.

Officials of my Department will be in direct contact with County Kilkenny Vocational Education Committee in this matter shortly.
